Course InformationInstall the Linux operating system and additional software. Understand and use the file system and user management systems. Set-up a Linux server on a network and do network orientated tasks. Understand Linux networks and do network trouble shooting Set-up and administer a Linux/Windows file server. Use of the command prompt to do basic administration.
Audience and PrerequisiteWindows system administrators, MCSE's, business owners and technical staff that wants to get their Linux servers up and running quickly.
Content- Module 1: Intro to Linux and Linux installation.
- Module 2: GUI/KDE basics.
- Module 3: package manager.
- Module 4: Webmin interface.
- Module 5: Introduction to the console and file editing.
- Module 6: User and groups.
- Module 7: The file system
- Module 8: Cron (Scheduling)
- Module 9: Networks (iconfig, route, IP addresses, netmaks, gateway).
- Module 10: DHCP
- Module 11: SSH
- Module 12: Squid (Linux proxy service)
- Module 13: Samba (Windows file sharing service)
Notes: Command line gets introduced in Module 7 and although the rest of the modules are all gui based the command line alternatives will be covered in its basic form from module 9.
StructureThis course runs for 3 full days or 4 evenings. The hours during the day is from 9:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 to 21:00 for the evenings.
